It's not blog apathy, really

SO MUCH has happened since I last blogged! And I have thought many times that I needed to sit down and record it all, but then I'd feel overwhelmed and just not do it.  But TODAY is the day!

In February I got a job! I'm working for FamilySearch as a metadata specialist, and it is my first "real job" in about 14 years. And I get to go to work in this beautiful building, or at least I did briefly. I started the beginning of March, just as the coronavirus pandemic really started to unfold in the US.

After only two weeks at work, everyone was told to work from home. All of the kids were also sent home from school to do schoolwork remotely. Even churches and stores (except for necessities) were closed. It's been a weird, weird time.

Shortly after that, Dad was also sent home from work, and I made the two of us these handy, dandy face masks for our rare trips to the grocery store.

We were getting VERY low on toilet paper at one point, and grocery shelves were empty, but thankfully our neighbors saw a pack while they were shopping and bought it for us.

There have been silver linings. We're still able to get out in nature as long as we stay away from other people, and we have enjoyed exploring some new places, like Antelope Island.

We drove out to this island in the Great Salt Lake one day to hike a bit and view the antelope and bison.

The weather was chilly and sunny and perfect.

There is a historical ranch on the island that was closed, but we could still walk around the grounds.

We've also been doing a lot of cooking and baking.  Everyone got involved one day and we made pierogies and onions from scratch.

We've been preparing and tilling the garden, which is finally cleared of weeds, and getting seedlings in the ground.  Maybe there will be garden update posts in my future.

We took a long hike for Dad's birthday on a warm sunny day.

He's an amazing husband and father and I'm so thankful that he is my partner in life. His birthday celebration really wasn't impacted by the virus, as this is the activity he would have chosen anyway!

Happy birthday honey!

Oh, and Easter happened too!  We died eggs...

... and the Easter Bunny came.We had thought that we would spend this holiday going to church and visiting with extended family, but due to the stay home orders we enjoyed a simple church service at home and had a nice dinner with just our family.

When we got very stir-crazy, we just got in the car and went for a drive.  One day we came across this.  It's called the Devil's Slide and looked super cool.

We also checked out a bunch of the reservoirs in the nearby mountains... hopefully we'll be back to kayak and swim this Summer. We really don't know how long the current situation will last, but we are thankful to all be healthy and to be able to be at home together. I'm personally thrilled to be able to work from home, after thinking this would be a job that I wouldn't be able to do that. So for as long as it lasts, we are staying home and staying safe. We hope you are as well!
